 Here in America I was desperate because there is always an editor behind you telling you what to do, and in the end the picture is lost—it isn’t yours any longer. 
 I took a photo of four soldiers on a latrine. One of the soldiers got killed later. I wanted his wife to have the last picture of him, but the only one I had was this one. She understood and thanked me. 
 Technique is only the minimum in photography. It’s what one must start with. I believe you should be a perfect technician in order to express yourself as you wish and then you can forget about the technique.
